This unit provides materials for lessons on the Five Themes of Geography. Geography is an important part of human history since the beginning of time. Geography has played a vital role in history and these themes help us to understand the different ways in which geography shapes the story of world history. This unit also has PowerPoints on the four components of a map and blank maps that can be used in the classroom. |

This unit includes PowerPoints on the first human-like creatures and their development into homo sapiens. There is also a PowerPoint on the Paleolithic and Neolithic ages as homosapiens who hunted and gathered for food found more efficient ways of survival through the Agricultural Revolution. Finally, the unit includes a PowerPoint on the Five Features of a Civilization, and a story activity that uses the book titled Weslandia written by Paul Fleischman. Three quizzes are also included in this unit. |

This unit includes PowerPoints on each of the four River Valley Civilizations; Mesopotamia, Egypt, Indus and China. These cradles of civilization show the importance of the role of geography in the development and nature of these societies, since they arose around the same time period but are all very different from one another. There are also the unit tests given to Pre-AP and Academic level students. |

This unit further explores the development of the Indus civilization and its history through what is known as the Classical Age of India. There is a PowerPoint on the first empires of India and also two PowerPoints and a quiz on Hinduism and Buddhism, the two major religions of India. This unit further explores the development of the Chinese civilization and its history into what is known as the Classical Age of China. There is a webquest that will require the use of a computer for each student. It goes into the Zhou dynasty and the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huangdi. There is also a packet on the Three philosophies of China; Confucianism, Daoism and Legalism, which requires the use of the text book titled, Ancient World History Patterns of Interaction by McDougal Littell. It includes a quiz on the three philosophies. There are also worksheets such as a China crossword puzzle and a Silk Roads worksheet with coinciding reading. Lastly, the unit test is also included for both pre-AP and academic level students. |
